Karunanidhi broke down while meeting daughter Kanimozhi at Tihar

DMK supremo M Karunanidhi broke down inside Tihar Jail on Monday on seeing his arrested MP daughter Kanimozhi in her cell. He spent 20 minutes with a special permission from the court. The jail rules permit not more than three visitors to meet any convict or under trial, but Karunanidhi's lawyers procured permission from the special court for the entire family to meet Kanimozhi.

They spent 20 minutes in her cell. Since the meeting was held in the presence of the Tihar Jail staff and the Tamil Nadu Special Police that guard the jail, Karunanidhi did not speak properly to his daughter.

He just exchanged emotional words. He flew into Delhi in the morning and cancelled his return to Chennai in the night after meeting Kanimozhi. Those calling on him at the hotel Taj Mansingh said he is quite upset with the Congress as he thinks the Cong- led UPA government would have saved the DMK leaders like Kanimozhi and A Raja from going to jail.

The DMK sources said Karunanidhi's health deteriorated after seeing Kanimozhi in the jail and that is why he cancelled his return. He had vomited in the aircraft in the morning while flying to Delhi, they said. He is bound to get upset that nobody from the Congress came to the airport to receive him, nor anybody turned up to meet him in the hotel, just half a km from the AICC headquarters, the DMK sources said. They were expecting at least Chidambaram and G K Vasan would certainly pay a courtesy call on their supremo.
