As many as 37 students of TY BCom of Chinai College of Commerce and Economics, will not be permitted to appear for the final year examinations, which will commence on Thursday. According to principal of the college, Dr Malini Johari, students who have been denied permission have been debarred from the college due to lack of attendance.
The issue of Chinai College of Commerce and Economics has been under the scanner for quite a long time. Approximately 500 students were debarred from the college due to lack of attendance. Special committees had been framed by the state government to look into the issue and frame a detailed report on the same.
Commenting on the issue of students being denied permission to appear for the examination, Dr. Johari said, " students have been debarred from the college due to low attendance. We are strictly following the rule of the university. Till now we have received no strong orders from the university as to whether students should be allowed for the examination despite low attendance." The issue heated up after the college management abruptly closed down the junior college section two years ago and recently debarred half the number of students, stating attendance reasons. Reasons have been unclear for the sudden closure of the junior college section.
The fate of the 37 students is hanging till date since the Higher and Technical Education department of the state government has been dragging on the issue, merely forming committees.
Minister of Higher and technical Education department Rajesh Tope had promised students that they should be allowed to appear for examinations. However, till now no arrangements have been visible. On the contrary, rumours were making the rounds that students who have been debarred from the college will appear for the examinations through the medium of distance education.
Reliable sources however have informed that the Director of Distance Education is unaware of any such decision taken by the state government. Students might lose their year if they do not receive their hall tickets to appear for the final year examination slated for Thursday.
